History of the L.H.S.
The Leasburg Historical Society was founded in 1995, by interested persons who recognized the history of a very unique small town.Although it is sparsely populated at the present the railroad which ran through this area, encouraged persons to settle here. And this same railroads importance set the stage for a important struggle during the Civil War.

In staging Civil War Re-enactments the Leasburg Historical Society preserves an important part of Leasburg's history. Our first Civil War re-enactment took place in 1996. It has increased in participants and attendance to the point that our Civil War re-enactment was designated as a major event by the Missouri Civil War Re-enactment Association for this year. Which will take place on October 19-20, 2002. This years re-enactment will be videotaped by Missouri Video Productions from Columbia Missouri. The video will be for sale to the public. We also provide printed information on the history leading up to and relating to the actual battle and its importance to Missouri.

The Leasburg Historical Society strives to give all persons regardless of their particular interest whether this be genealogy. Civil War enthusiasts or history buff we try to make all this available to anyone who is interested.

With our desire to preserve the History of Crawford County, we strive to coordinate with other Historical Society's throughout Missorui and the United States. Helen Wright one of the original founders has published the book "Cemetery Records of Crawford County". In 2001 the book was updated and some of the information was revised. This is now available on C.D. through the Historical Society. The Historical Society provides speakers for schools, clubs or organizations to speek on the Civil War and other history of that era.

Our ultimate goal is to provide a building to house artifacts pertaining to our history. Although we are a small group we receive support from our community to help us achieve these goals.
